Box Score Throggs Neck, NY – Wednesday night in Throggs Neck, the Privateers put out a huge effort while missing two key starters, one unable to play due to an ankle injury and the other under the weather. Yet in the end they just couldn’t overcome the Cyclones of Centenary College as they fell three games to none in this Skyline Conference women’s volleyball match. The Privateers kept each game close 30-23, 30-22, 30-20, and held leads on several occasions.
Freshman outside hitter
Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillos, NY/West Genesse) had yet another solid game for the Privateers as she was all over the court picking up 14 digs, which was a team high, she also added six kills. Fellow freshman
Mackenzie Hough (Johnstown, PA/Bishop McCourt) (Johnston, PA/Bishop McCort) had a career high of 12 digs while senior middle blocker
Rita Martins (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) finished with a season high of ten solo blocks.
For Centenary, sophomore outside hitters Christina Boyer (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Catholic) and Dairomy Bolano (Passaic, NJ/Paterson Catholic) each had nine kills, and setter Maggie Burdick (Clark, NJ/Johnson Regional) finished with 27 assists helping Centenary pick up the win.
The win for Centenary now brings them to 3-13 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline with the fourth victory coming off of a forfeit that only counts towards their conference record. Maritime will have two chances this weekend to pick up their first win of the year as they travel to Bronxville to take on Sarah Lawrence and Brooklyn College in a Tri-Match at Sarah Lawrence. The first match is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
